Early Childhood Education

Teaching young children and watching them grow is a special blessing. CUAA’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program provides you with the knowledge and understanding you need to make a difference in the lives of our youngest learners.

Program Highlights

If you choose to major in Early Childhood Education (ECE) with an elementary education teaching certificate, you’ll need to add a major in a teachable subject (math, integrated science, language arts, or social studies) and add Early Childhood Education as a second major. Upon completion of the program, you’ll be eligible for the State of Michigan’s Early Childhood Education endorsement (ZS) on the elementary education teaching certificate.

Learning Outcomes

As an ECE graduate, you’ll step into the classroom with the knowledge needed to:

  • Teach in early childhood settings such as Head Start, GSRP and other government-funded programs
  • Plan curriculum, instruction and activities for young children
  • Use music, art, movement and dramatic play to encourage creative expression and learning
  • Perform formal and informal assessments of young children, including observation, analysis, reporting and application of results
  • Integrate curriculum to support a young child’s physical, social, emotional, language, cognitive, and spiritual development

CUAA’s Early Childhood Education program is certified through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Student Organizations

The Early Childhood Society is an active student group you are welcome to explore. We do service projects every year and offer a way to get to know your fellow students outside of class.
